Flush casement windows are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s easy to see why. These are high quality uPVC windows that replicate the style of timber windows.
Subtle design details combine to give superior aesthetics over standard uPVC casement windows.
The most obvious difference is the clean flat front given by a flush casement. A closer look reveals a key detail difference in the way the frames are jointed. Standard uPVC windows are usually joined at their corners with 450 welds – these never appeared on original timber framed windows. Flush casements such as Residence Collection R9 and Evolution windows are mechanically jointed at 900 – just like a timber window. Add some traditional hardware and maybe some astragal bars, and you have a window that looks as good as the original.
For comparison, below is pictured a standard uPVC window with 450 welds, showing the opening sash sitting proud of the frame:
We also supply and fit vertical sliding sash windows that look from the street just like original timber sash windows – but they give smoother more reliable operation and they offer vastly improved energy efficiency.
Buyers of especially period properties want a home that looks and feels ‘right’. The extra money spent on flush casement windows or sash windows is likely to be repaid when it comes time to move on. Victorian terraced houses often feature only two or three windows on their front facets, so the kerb appeal of these smaller non-Listed terraced properties can be transformed at relatively low extra cost.
Perhaps most important are the benefits that you will experience yourself when living with your new windows. Windows are the ‘eyes of the house’ and they frame our views of the outside. Consider how a painting can be made more or less attractive by the frame in which it sits.
You will probably only replace your windows once, and you’ll soon forget the extra money spent on products that really do look and feel like an elegant enhancement to your home.
